In short:
PrettyPicked is committed to making this site usable for everyone, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technology. We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA and EN 301 549 across every published article. If something is broken for you, please tell us at a11y@prettypicked.com — we respond within 14 days.
Conformance target
We target the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at Level AA and the European harmonised standard EN 301 549, in line with the European Accessibility Act (EAA, Directive (EU) 2019/882) which became enforceable across EU member states on 28 June 2025.
Conformance status
PrettyPicked is partially conformantwith WCAG 2.2 AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the content do not yet fully meet every Level AA Success Criterion — see "Known limitations" below. Every newly published article is audited before deploy and must return a SHIP verdict from our automated accessibility gate.
Test methodology
Before every article goes live, we run:
- axe-core — automated rules against the rendered HTML (zero critical or serious findings to ship).
- pa11y — WCAG2AA standard (zero errors to ship).
- Lighthouse accessibility — score must be ≥95.
- Alt-text spec — every image alt audited for length, banned openers, distinguishing attribute, uniqueness.
- Link-purpose rotor check— no two anchors may share an accessible name (each "See on Etsy" carries an
aria-labelwith the product name).
Once per quarter we additionally run a manual screen-reader pass with NVDA on Windows + Firefox and VoiceOver on iOS Safari against a sample article, covering rotor heading list, links list, images list, landmark list, and end-to-end keyboard-only navigation.
Known limitations
- Embedded Pinterest pin widgets render inside a third-party iframe we do not control; their internal accessibility tree is not audited by our gate. Pin descriptions are duplicated as plain text immediately before the embed.
- Affiliate-link redirect handshakes (Rakuten LinkSynergy) briefly show an intermediate page on click; this page belongs to Rakuten and is outside our build.
